A customer recently expressed joy when viewing one of my paintings.
Genuine joy.
What a privilege to be the creator of something that evokes that kind of emotion in someone.
This particular painting brought me personal joy during the process of creating it.
“Skyline” was painted en plein air on a beautiful sunny day.
Inspired by the colour of the sky and the impact of it on the landscape below, this powerful, vibrant abstract evolved as I used my brush to visually express the experience.
There is something uniquely inspirational about painting outdoors. Being physically grounded in the landscape you are painting is an exhilarating experience. Wrestling with the elements offers opportunity for the painting to reflect the direct energy, translating from source to canvas.
Although for me the painting process included exhilaration and wrestling the final outcome, in this instance, was one of reflection and serenity. I find that the pursuit of true joy in our lives often reflects the tension between struggle and contentment too.
As I continue my journey of exploring the potential of developing a business from my artwork, I recognise the need to develop the ability to embrace all the seasons, barren or plentiful, that are experienced by all small business owners.
As “Skyline” goes to its new home this Christmas, I am choosing to reflect on the joy that I have found so far on my journey and I want to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU for your support.
You have no idea what it means to me to know that you have invested in my work and are following my journey. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
I wish you a very happy, healthy Christmas and a blessed New Year. Gillian
